Discover the city of Turin, Italy's first capital city, on this fun, enjoyable and fascinating small group tour!
Your tour will start at 10:00 am in Piazza C.L.N. where you will meet your specialist kid-friendly guide before embarking on a fascinating walk taking in some of Turin's most famous and iconic locations. You will stroll through elegant, bustling squares such as Piazza San Carlo, a favourite with bohemian types as well as some of the city's more famous residents. Both you and your children will be enthralled as your guide tells you stories about the city, revealing aspects of its history, culture, and strange little curiosities. That will be followed by a walk along via Roma, the city's most elegant shopping street and home to a wide range of fashion boutiques and department stores, before coming to Piazza Castello, the heart of Turin.
The square is dominated by Palazzo Reale, the former official residence of the Savoy Royal Family, and Palazzo Madama, which was once the seat of the Savoy Senate, and subsequently for a number of years after Italian unification, that of the Italian Senate too. Another important feature of Piazza Castello is the Teatro Regio, the city's most prestigious theatre and one of the most important in Italy.
Just behind Piazza Castello is the Duomo di Torino, the city's cathedral which, designed by Guarino Guarini, was built between and 1491 and 1498. It houses what is probably the most famous religious relic on earth, the Holy Shroud, which when on display attracts visitors from all over the world.
The Palatine Gates sit just opposite the cathedral, bearing witness to the city's Roman period. One of the best-preserved Roman gateways in the world, it is now part of an Archaeological Park together with the nearby ancient Roman theatre.
Your guide will then lead you back across Piazza Castello to Via Po, with its numerous second-hand bookshops, traditional cafés, and craft shops. The Mole Antonelliana will provide a great photo opportunity and, after your guide has told you about the history of what is perhaps Turin's most recognisable landmark, you will reach the end of your walking tour in Piazza Vittorio.
